Silver Coquetier of Jules Verne

Silver Coquetier of Jules Verne

Silver Coquetier of Jules Verne

This late 19th-century silver coquetier (also known as egg cup) belonged to Jules Verne, the visionary author whose works redefined the boundaries of literature and science. Crafted in solid silver with a gilt interior and engraved with the initials “J.V.,” the piece reflects Verne’s refined taste and the symbolic richness that permeated his world.

Its form evokes celestial and maritime themes central to Verne’s narratives, with rocaille-style feet reminiscent of ocean waves and engraved constellations that echo his fascination with exploration. Likely used during private receptions or literary gatherings, the coquetier served as both a vessel and a statement—an emblem of intellectual life and fantastical vision.

Preserved in excellent condition, with its gilt interior intact and a soft patina enhancing its authenticity, the piece offers collectors a rare convergence of literary heritage and French craftsmanship. It stands as a tangible echo of Verne’s imagination, bridging the real and the fantastical with quiet dignity.
