Rudolph Valentino's Cigarette Holder in Ivory Case
Rudolph Valentino's Cigarette Holder in Ivory Case
This is a refined cigarette holder preserved in a finely inlaid ivory case, adorned with metal fittings at the corners and edges, its interior lined in dark velvet that enhances both its preciousness and the meticulous craftsmanship. A creation of rare elegance, it once belonged to Rodolfo Valentino, the immortal icon of silent cinema and a universal symbol of charm and seduction, whose presence defined an era and helped shape the collective imagination of the early twentieth century. It remained in the residence of Jean Acker after their divorce, later passing by inheritance to Chloe Carter, who sold it to Dr. Engle, its previous owner before me, in whose possession it remained until his death. In 2018, following Dr. Engle’s passing, I acquired it from one of his heirs, together with the original letter of provenance signed by Chloe in 1987 at the time of her sale, a document that certifies its origin and seals its history.
To possess such an object today is to hold not merely a work of fine craftsmanship, but a tangible fragment of Rudolph Valentino’s legend - a silent witness to an unrepeatable age, capable of evoking the glamour, the myth, and the magnetic aura of one of the greatest figures in the history of cinema.
